Why another environment blog?

I was an environmental sceptic – “Save the Environment, who me?”

Like a lot of you out there, I heard all the talk about climate change and declined to think much of it. I didn’t think it would affect me and thought I couldn’t do anything about it. More often than not, I felt that most environmentalists were being dramatic and were spreading doom and gloom messages to scare people. Even today, I still have quite a bit of scepticism about climate change and whether it’s man-made or not. The environmentalists who spread hysterical and catastrophic predictions about the end of the world certainly won’t change my mind.

What I do know is that I enjoy being outdoors. For as long as I can remember, I have loved being outside whether it’s camping, hiking, fishing or just hanging outside with friends. My love of nature has made me appreciate having places where I can get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the natural sounds and scenery. It’s when I’m on my favorite hikes or in my choice camping spots that I become acutely aware of the importance of preserving areas in their natural state. Unfortunately, I have already seen some of my cherished outdoor spaces become destroyed through development or overuse. This makes me worry that some of the places I enjoy today won’t be around when my kids grow up. When I spot litter and garbage in some of the most remote places, I am reminded there are few areas on earth that haven’t been impacted by man.

How I became an environmental crusader

Everything has a limit and we can’t continue to treat earth’s resources like a big ATM where we continue to make withdrawals. Unless we find ways to conserve, reuse and invest back into earth’s resources, like the cash in an ATM, they will eventually get depleted.

That’s how I started becoming an eco-crusader. I wanted to do my part to conserve the earth’s resources. I began making small changes in my life and looking for ways to use less. Family and friends started to notice. They asked me why I would try to salvage or repurpose something instead of throwing it out and buying a replacement. When I explained to them that not all of the earth’s resources regenerate themselves and that I was doing my part to slow down the depletion, they began to listen. I didn’t need to scare them or make them feel guilty. I simply showed them how small changes can make a difference, especially when a lot of people make the same change together.

How we can all help save the planet

Whether you believe in climate change or not, we can all agree that it is critical to conserving the earth’s resources for future generations. With ecocrusader.com, I hope to show you easy everyday things you can do to help. These can be reducing how much you use every day or finding ways to recycle or repurpose things instead of throwing them out. You may find that some of these helpful tips not only save the environment but may also save you money. If you have a garden, I will show you how to make your own compost that is rich in nutrients to help your plants grow strong and healthy.

With these small steps, you can make a difference. You may even want to explore deeper and take more significant steps. I can help with that too. I will have tips on implementing some bold changes to impact your ecological footprint. My wish is that you find the articles here useful enough that you want to share them with friends and family. Remember, we don’t have to drastically change our lives in order to make a difference. Many people making the same small changes can have a huge impact.

I started this blog to help people understand how they can do their part to help save the planet. I hope you enjoy reading my posts, get some benefit from them and maybe try one or more of the tips to help preserve the planet.
